Some of my favorite recipes require cooked, shredded chicken and often say 1 can of cooked chicken. Well I buy 10 lb bags of chicken legs and thighs and make my own cooked, shredded chicken at a fraction of the cost of canned chicken (thanks mom for the tip!).

I found this 10lb bag of chicken legs and thighs at Walmart for $4.92

Layer your chicken into a crockpot

Now it's time to separate the skin and bones from all that good chicken. I like to shred the chicken with my fingers as I separate.

I like to freeze my chicken and the broth (liquid from the crockpot) separate. So I put 2 cups of chicken per freezer bag and pour the broth into separate freezer containers or freeze in ice cube trays.
I was able to get enough shredded chicken for about 5 meals out of this bag.

Thanks for the tip! Now you should go get me a croc pot so I can do this! ;)
Justin- that's what you use your swagbucks for!
Add some onions, carrots, & celery to the pot for an even tastier broth! Yum! I posted about it myself recently.
